The Cowessess First Nation is still working out the details of its drug policy.

Chief Grady Lerat predicts it will be in place by the end of this month.

Lerat had hoped the policy would be in place by January 3rd but he says they’re still dealing with rights issues, like search and seizure.

Some bands are looking at banishing drug dealers or other trouble-makers altogether.

Lerat says the Cowessess band has done that in the past, and may do it again, but only if there’s no other choice.

Lerat says the band council is watching some individuals right now to see if banishment may be necessary.
