A coyote shot in North Battleford is confirmed to have had distemper.

Bylaw enforcement supervisor Ross MacAngus says the positive result came back Thursday.

The disease affects dogs, wolves and coyotes.

Animals that get distemper typically have runny noses, watery eyes, and no energy.

If the disease gets into their brains, it can kill them.

MacAngus is hoping to prevent the disease from getting into the domestic dog population in the city.

He adds, so far, there’s no sign that has happened.
