Victims of crime are being encouraged to register with a federal program so they are notified when their offender returns to the community.
The Saskatoon-based Regional Victim Services manager with the Correctional Service of Canada, Laurie Burnouf, says the program is a notification and referral service that will let people know when an offender is transferred or released.
Burnouf says this service will allow crime victims and their families prepare themselves in case they run into an offender once he or she returns to a community.
Registration forms for the service are available at local RCMP detachments, and there is also a toll-free number people can call: 1-877-322-5822.
