Officials with the Mamawetan Churchill River Regional Health Authority say requests for the revamped Air Medevac Service are on the rise.
The reorganized service started in July 2010, and 672 flights were made across the north in the first 15 months.
The health region contracts out the service to Transwest Air and La Ronge EMS.
Health Region CEO Andrew McLetchie says there are no signs that the demand will be decreasing — noting there was an average of three calls being made a day in early January.
McLetchie says it provides basic to intermediate medical service to communities across the north for non-life-threatening situations.
He also says it has enhanced patient care in northern Saskatchewan — and it’s hoped it can be expanded to include communities which are not currently able to accommodate the aircraft.
McLetchie notes, in the future, STARS air ambulance helicopters will also be able to reach the area.
