Statistics Canada has started a preliminary investigation into population figures for the Town of La Ronge.

Mayor Thomas Sierzycki launched an appeal after the latest census indicated the town’s population had dropped by about 15% since 2006.

Sierzycki says he has submitted information to StatsCan and officials say the process could take several months.

He says he hopes StatsCan’s formal investigation can be complete by October’s municipal election.

In the meantime, the federal government will continue using information from the 2006 census.
