Wanuskewin Heritage Park is hosting the 2012 National Aboriginal Moot Court this weekend.

Teams from 15 law schools are being brought together to discuss current legal issues and put theory into practice.

For students involved, it is part of the curriculum and they will be graded and receive credit.

Professor Norman Zlotkin says its an exercise in multi-party negotiations dealing with treaty interpretation:

“It’s based on Aboriginal values.  We do it in a circle, we don’t do it competitively.  It’s done with respect.  It’s trying to reach a consensus on a given problem.”

The event was organized by the Native Law Centre and the Aboriginal Law Students Association, and is being held in Saskatoon to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law.
