Residents of Meadow Lake can expect to boil their water for the next couple of weeks.

A boil water advisory went into effect on Monday after high turbidity levels occurred in the treated water supply.

Ron Cummins is a project officer with Saskatchewan Environment.

Cummins explains changes in the raw water supply, likely caused by seasonal run-off, upset the ability of the filtration system to properly remove the turbidity from the water.

He stresses the back-up system prevented untreated water from entering the system but the move shut off the plant for a period of time.

Cummins says they are testing the water right now:

“Bacterialogical samples have been sent out Monday and Tuesday.  And for crypto and giardia, because of the automatic shut-offs in the plant, there was not any water from the original upset that occurred on Saturday . . . put through to the distribution system.”

The city says boiled water should be used for drinking purposes, brushing teeth, dishwashing by hand and preparing fruits or vegetables.
