Saskatchewan’s first emergency youth shelter for teenagers has opened in Regina.
The Downtown Browne’s Emergency Youth Shelter will house up to 15 young people between the ages of 16 and 18.
The shelter is operated by Street Culture Project, a non-profit charitable organization.
Street Culture CEO Kim Sutherland says teenage boys used to go to a men’s shelter for emergency housing and there were safety concerns.
Sutherland says the new shelter will get them off the streets and into a safe setting.
The teens can stay for up to 30 days and get help before moving onto longer-term placements.
