The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is pleased with recent statements by the provincial government on education funding.
Premier Brad Wall and Education Minister Donna Harpauer told reporters earlier this week that First Nations schools should have the same funding as non-First Nations schools.
On Tuesday, they called on the federal government to increase funding for Aboriginal schools.
FSIN Vice Chief Simon Bird says the FSIN has been making that same argument for years, and he is glad the province is pushing that issue.
“I believe with the support of our provincial government, I think the federal government is in a tough position to turn a deaf ear.”
Bird says he will be watching both the federal and provincial budgets closely to see what is in them for Aboriginal education.
