A former Gold Eagle Casino dealer charged with cheating his employer has been told to come up with $1,000 restitution every two weeks — or he could go to jail.

Last fall, Christopher Stone Spyglass pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000.

In January, Stone Spyglass agreed to pay $12,600 in restitution.

He was given until today to make arrangements for that.

But his lawyer told a North Battleford court he has been out of work and unable to raise more than $1,000.

However, he has a job in Fort McMurray starting this Friday, so he pledged to start paying $1,000 installments in two weeks.

Crown prosecutor Ryan LaRose says Judge Violet Meekma agreed to that, but warned of the consequences if he doesn’t:

“She made it very clear that the matter would be proceeding to sentencing without further delay — and that the accused would be potentially looking at a custodial sentence.”

LaRose says he hasn’t seen decisions like this often, but it has happened before.
