One of three men charged following a riot in La Loche last fall has been sentenced to six months time served.

In La Loche Provincial Court on Tuesday, 22-year-old Deano LaPrise entered a guilty plea to uttering threats and participating in a riot.

Nine other charges against him were stayed.

On September 30th, emergency personnel were attacked while attending to an unconscious man who was injured after crashing his ATV.

Police and ambulance personnel had cans, bottles and other debris thrown at them by people attending two nearby house parties — believing police were responsible for the man’s injuries.

A crowd of between 50 and 70 people later surrounded the hospital, damaged an ambulance and burned a police vehicle.

Two other men facing similar charges are back in court today in La Loche.
