Communities within the Prince Albert Grand Council are taking steps to buckle up.

SGI has selected the PAGC to take part in its annual Seatbelt Challenge.

The campaign has been going on since 2008.

Two other communities in southeast and southwest Saskatchewan are also taking part.

Grade 12 students will be observing drivers and their passengers this spring to see how many people are actually wearing their seatbelts.

Over the summer, they will embark on an awareness campaign where they will do things such as put up posters to raise the word about seatbelt usage.

Carmen Good is a resident of Fond du Lac who is helping out with the campaign.

Good says the kids will also be working with the RCMP during vehicle stops to encourage more motorists to buckle up.

SGI officials say the campaign has been done before in the Meadow Lake, Saskatoon and File Hills Tribal Councils.

Out of 39 tested communities, 38 have shown a noticeable improvement in seatbelt usage.
