A presidential candidate in this spring’s Metis Nation – Saskatchewan election is voicing his concerns over how polling stations for the vote are apparently being set up.

Ray Laliberte says he recently discovered that polling would only take place in each MN-S region, and not individual communities.

Laliberte says this is unacceptable, as many Metis lack transportation to drive out-of-town to cast their ballots.

He calls it a “farce”, and believes the federal and provincial governments need to immediately intervene so that there can be voting in every Metis community.

The chief electoral officer for the MN-S election, Annette Yarmovich, says the plan at this point is to have a ballot box in every region — but adds this could change if more funding comes through.

She stresses the level of funding for next month’s election is not as much as the previous one.
