Some outstanding First Nations talent was celebrated over the weekend in Saskatoon.
It was the 14th year for the SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards of Excellence.
Tara Willet of the Little Pine First Nation and Perry Opoonechaw of the Chakastaypasin First Nation took home the outstanding achievement awards while Saskatoon’s Kieren Johnston and Shanyna Thomas of the Kinistin Saulteaux reserve both captured sports and recreation honours.
Chris Dogniez of Saskatoon was the winner of the education award, while Shyanne St. Denis of Thunderchild won the leadership award.
Wade Lavallee and Chris Mike, both from the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation, won the spirit award and the leadership award, respectively.
Other winners included Gabrielle Abraham of the Waterhen Lake First Nation in the field of technology, Amelia Badger of Kawacatoose in culture and Shaquille McGonigle of Saskatoon in the arts category.
Meanwhile, the radio station at Beardy’s received an award for community service.
