A member of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation is being recognized by SIAST.

Richard Ahenakew is being awarded an honourary diploma for his many years of service to the community.

He belongs to many boards and committees in Prince Albert — and was also the first Aboriginal person in Canada to chair a provincial chamber of commerce.

Ahenakew says he is grateful for the recognition, and never expected to be honoured this way.

He says he likes SIAST because of how accessible it is to northern First Nations and Metis people, giving them a good chance to have a career.

Ahenakew is the general manager of the Northern Lights Casino.
