A partnership agreement has come together to help at-risk children on the Muskowekwan First Nation.
Today, a $4-million, 20-bed care facility was officially opened on the reserve.
It was funded by the province, the Muskowekwan First Nation and 4 Directions Child and Family Services.
The province says the children come from backgrounds of breakdowns in the foster care system.
According to the government, their time at the facility will help them develop the skills they need to return to their families or the community.
The province also says it can take up to six months of intense care before the children, aged 12 to 16, are stable enough to go home.
Muskowekwan Chief Reg Bellerose says the funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to working in a true partnership with First Nations people.
The facility provides in-house recreation, education and cultural programming.
