The acting chief of the Key First Nation didn’t mince words earlier this week when he found out First Nations war veterans hadn’t received funding commitments for the grave marker program.
Daryl Cote was speaking to delegates at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations legislative assembly in Nipawin.
He told them he was surprised to hear veterans telling the assembly they hadn’t heard yet if their request for $150,000 over two years had been accepted or not.
Cote says he feels the vets deserve the money and he wanted them to know he hadn’t heard about it, even though he sits on a community development corporation board.
FSIN Vice Chief Morley Watson assured Cote they would be sitting down with the veterans to see what they could do to help them.
The veterans say there are 200 vets’ graves in the province that need markers.
