For the second year in a row, the Regina Food Bank and some corporate sponsors are providing a free lunch program for Regina’s inner city children.
The CEO of the Foodbank, Wayne Hellquist, says the program picks up where the school lunch program ends.
He says the initiative fills a vital gap:
“Unquestionably, there would be kids that go hungry during the summer months. And, fundamentally, that’s just wrong in a community like ours, where we do have the resources (and) we can put together a program like this. We believe that this is really important — to make sure that every kid has access to food during the summer months.”
The program is expected to feed 200 to 300 children a day.
