Northwest Metis Gearing Up for Gathering

Metis from the province’s North will gather for a major meeting next week at South Bay, near Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Some of the issues highlighted for the September 3rd to 6th gathering are land claims, hunting, mining, health and employment.

Organizer Don Favel says many west side Metis are also wondering if jobs will materialize out of a forestry management agreement given to northwest communities some time ago.

Favel says there is also talk of a northwest-area Metis office being established.
