North Battleford city councillor Ray Fox has received a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The former Sweetgrass First Nation resident received the medal recently in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Fox was there for the National Association of Friendship Centres annual general meeting. Fox is a senator in the association, representing Saskatchewan.
He also serves on several provincial boards, including SaskCulture.
Fox is hoping the fact he got this medal will encourge Aboriginal youth to aspire to greater things:
“My message to the youth is: ‘If I was able to do it, then certainly you’re capable of doing it’.”
Fox says the medal gives him encouragment to keep reaching out to youth, adding “it gives me the inspiration to try a little harder”.
The medal is given to people who have done good things for their community, the province or the country.
Fox previously received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.
