The provincial NDP gathered in Prince Albert Thursday to swap ideas and hear from constituents during the party’s annual caucus meeting.
Lunch with the mayor was followed by a tour of a community centre in the West Flat and a public meeting.
Interim leader John Nilson says he and his fellow MLAs have a lot of concerns about the direction the provincial government is taking when it comes to labour laws.
Nilson worries new legislation could target things like vacation time, overtime pay and safety.
He adds this would definitely affect jobs in Northern Saskatchewan:
“The important thing in the north is that many of the agreements around the development of resources in the north have built on very solid worker-protection legislation — and if you start taking out a lot of the standard conditions of employment, it’ll affect some of the workers in the north, as well.”
Nilson says members of his party will be in La Ronge next week for a fact-finding mission about issues in that region, as well.
