The Valley Hill Youth Treatment Centre has officially opened its doors in Prince Albert.

The 15-bed facility is designed to help youth between the ages of 12 and 17 deal with addiction-problems.

The provincial government has invested more than $5 million into the facility and is prepared to offer nearly $2 million more on an annual basis.

Darlene Bessey is the chairperson of the board of directors.

She says the facility will begin accepting clients into its six-week program starting Monday:

“One of the reasons for its location in Prince Albert is that it’s accessible to young people in the north.”

She stresses people throughout the entire province will be eligible to use it though.

The project has been in the works for six years.

The centre is partially run by the Prince Albert Grand Council and the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.
