Indian Affairs has taken the rare step of providing members of the Island Lake First Nation with copies of the band’s recent audit.

The department is also supplying members with a summary of the band’s remedial management plan.

Normally, a band member has to go through chief and council to get these documents.

Indian Affairs spokesman James Parker says the department will supply the information to band members only in case where it can be demonstrated that the band administration has failed to do so.

Indian Affairs will be hosting a meeting at the Island Lake reserve this Friday to discuss the band’s audit and remedial management plan.

Band member Austin Heathen says this is the first time band members have had this level of access to band financial information.
