An investigation is underway after a prisoner was found dead in the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre today.
The facility is currently under a lockdown, and visits are being limited.
Judy Orthner of the Ministry of Corrections and Public Safety says guards conducting their regular bed checks found the body at around 8:20 this morning.
Orthner says the 28-year-old victim was found “clearly deceased” in his cell.
She says the death is considered suspicious and the Saskatoon Police Service’s Major Crimes unit has been brought in.
The inmate has been identified as Elvis Percy Yee, also known as Elvis Percy Lachance.
Police say a cause of death will be released pending an autopsy.
The jail handles inmates serving remand and sentences of two years or less.
