The Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority is confirming that a lawsuit has been filed against it by the federal government.
In an email, the health region says the statement of claim is in the amount of $355,520.
It says the issue in question dates back to a period between March 1st, 2005 and January 31, 2007.
The allegations revolve around a chronic over-charging of the Non-Insured Health Benefits program by a pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ile-a-la-Crosse.
Health Canada also suspects the pharmacy sold medicine that had expired.
As well, the federal department alleges the health authority blocked its attempts to review financial records.
For its part, the health region says several personnel changes have resulted in the loss of corporate knowledge of past events.
It also says pharmacy operations have since changed and it will be in a position to comment at a later date.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Keewatin Yatthe sold the pharmacy to a commercial interest in 2007.
