The National Post is reporting that a former chief is moving ahead with plans to visit Iran in an effort to garner support for First Nations people.
Terrence Nelson is the former chief of the Roseau River First Nation in Manitoba and has competed for the top job at the Assembly of First Nations as well.
Several months ago he announced he would meet with Iranian leaders to discuss abuse of First Nations people in Canada.
According to the report he plans to head overseas next week.
The proposed visit comes just weeks after Canada expelled Iranian diplomats from its embassy in Ottawa.
