A man received a six-year sentence today for manslaughter in the death of a Canoe Lake man.
But his actual time in jail works out to three-and-a-half years.
That’s because he received credit for time spent in remand.
Last spring, the man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of James Durocher.
Durocher’s body was found on February 17th, 2011 after a house fire on the reserve.
Crown Prosecutor Scott Bartlett says Durocher’s death was a brutal one.
“(The) victim was stabbed and assaulted with a hammer, and the house was set on fire.”
Although he’s now an adult, the man’s name cannot be revealed because he was a youth when he committed the offence.
