A few hundred people turned out to welcome the first-ever Indigenous Bishop for the Anglican Church of Saskatchewan.

The Venerable, Adam Halkett, Archdeacon of Saskatchewan and priest-in-charge at St. Joseph’s, Montreal Lake First Nation was elected to the position of Diocesan Indigenous Bishop back on July 28th of this year.

Today dozens of Priests, Bishops and other members of the Clergy filed through the doors of the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Gymnasium to consecrate him to his new position.

Halkett’s new duties will see him tending to First Nations and Metis people in the province.

He’ll be confirming young people, ordaining clergy and tackling other pressing issues.
