The head of the Aboriginal Affairs Coalition of Saskatchewan says he wants to hear more Aboriginal issues discussed in the Saskatoon civic election campaign.
Kim Beaudin says, so far, he has heard virtually nothing from the three men who are running to be mayor.
Beaudin says that’s unfortunate, because he thinks city leaders could be instrumental in addressing issues like Aboriginal job numbers:
“I believe that the city could take a leadership role — it wouldn’t matter whether it’s Saskatoon, Regina or Prince Albert — in terms of working with the business community to get people hired.”
Beaudin notes the 2006 Census reported that over 60% of Aboriginal people now reside in cities.
He says with numbers like that, Aboriginal issues need to come to the forefront.
