It’s a sad day for staff and students at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.

The school’s president, Randell Morris, died today.

Classes have been cancelled for the day and tomorrow while the family makes funeral preparations.

Advanced Education Minister Don Morgan says Morris was a leader and visionary and will be remembered for his leadership in preparing many First Nations people for the workforce:

“During his period of time, I don’t know the numbers, but the programs have continued to grow.  And when he’s come back to government, it’s not been for problems — it’s because of successes.”

Morgan adds the aircraft maintenance program is just one example of this.

He notes the last convocation was nearly cancelled because all of the graduates had jobs to go to.
