The head of an Aboriginal advocacy group is hoping the new leader of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations will bring a better working relationship between the two groups.
Kim Beaudin is the president of the Aboriginal Affairs Coalition of Saskatchewan.
He welcomes the election of Perry Bellegarde as the new chief of the FSIN.
Both groups are facing funding cuts and have major concerns over proposed changes to the Indian Act.
Beaudin says the two organizations can get a lot more done if they work together, something that has not always happened in the past:
“There was some problems. I don’t think they really understood our role, in terms of what we stood for.”
Beaudin is hoping to set up a meeting with Bellegarde to discuss mutual concerns.
However, the FSIN says it won’t be commenting on the AACS proposal.
