Almost two months after the first vote was cast, May Henderson has been declared the new provincial secretary of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan.
Today, the MN-S released the results of a judicial recount that took place in Saskatoon on October 29th and 30th.
Chief Electoral Officer Ian Craven says a Queen’s Bench justice held the recount at the offices of MNP in front of scrutineers.
The entire process took both days.
It shows that Henderson won the race by defeating fellow challenger Tammy Mah 865 votes to 812.
Henderson says it’s a relief to finally be declared the winner:
“It’s been a long struggle, and it’s good it’s over and we can move on now.”
Henderson adds some people have told her they have been unable to obtain Metis citizenship cards, so that will be one of her first orders of business.
Her first day on the job is November 19.
