Fired Employees Closer To Receiving Settlement

Another judicial hearing took place Wednesday for former employees of the Waterhen Lake First Nation.
Legal proceedings against the band have been taking place for over three years now.
It was back in November of 2001 that the four workers contend they were fired unjustly.
They filed a complaint under the labour act and a federal adjudicator ordered the band to pay them compensation.
The band promptly appealed that decision – however the federal court of Canada ruled in the worker¹s favour early last year.
Lawyer for the workers Benjamin Partyka (par-TEEKA) says an arbitration hearing was held Wednesay to determine some of the amounts that may be owed to the workers.
The adjudicator presiding over that matter was the same person who awarded the workers compensation in the first place.
Partyka hopes to hear sometime within the next month how much that will be.
