A graduation ceremony took place this morning at Christopher Lake for a unique program.
10 graduates of the “Beahr” program walked across the floor to receive their diplomas.
The Building Environmental Aboriginal Human Resources (BEAHR) Environmental
Monitoring program is offered twice a year through the help of Sask energy.
Corporation spokesman Gillis Lavalley says the course gives the kids a sense of how to understand industrial projects that affect the environment.
He adds environmental monitors can often act as a liason between a First Nations community and a company.
“It gives that person an opportunity to deliver a message in relationship to the environment.”
He says it also gives industry a chance to see how the land is viewed by First Nations.
