A 43 year-old snowmobile rider is dead after the sled he was riding broke through the ice on Deschambault Lake.
RCMP say it was on Friday officers responded to a report of an impaired driver.
They tried to stop the man but he took off on a snowmobile across the ice.
The next day a relative of the suspect walked into the detachment saying they had found the snowmobile.
A short time he came back telling officers he had found the body — a short distance away from the sled.
Sergeant Gary Bonneau says the sled was in a shallow bay, three-quarters submerged:
“It appeared that the snow machine did break through the ice and it appears like the male succumbed to freezing to death.”
The coroner’s office continues to investigate.
The name of the man has not been released.
