More light is being shed on the death of man in Prince Albert who passed away shortly after leaving a police cell.

So far the name of the 44 year-old has not been released but autopsy results are pending.

He was admitted to the cell Thursday morning but it wasn’t long before he went into distress and paramedics were summoned.

Police spokesman Sergeant Kelly Maclean says the man was having trouble breathing:

“We’ll just say that he was having some breathing issues and obviously some medical problems that we’re ill-equipped to handle here at the police service so we contacted Parkland Ambulance and they came and transported him back to the Vic (hospital). “

Maclean says the man was originally picked up at the hospital because he was creating a disturbance.

He wasn’t facing any criminal charges.
