The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is looking for public feedback on a major project in northern Saskatchewan.
A few years ago, SaskPower announced plans to build a 42 to 50 megawatt power station at Elizabeth Falls.
The dam will be located on the Fond du Lac River within the Chicken Reserve of the Black Lake First Nation.
A spokesman for SaskPower says the company is about to start advanced engineering on the project as well as signing off on a high-level agreement with the First Nations band.
Grant Ring says SaskPower is hoping to start construction in just over a year from now.
“Out intention is to have the project completed by December 2017,” he says.
Celine Legault, a spokesperson for the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, says the agency is still trying to determine whether a federal assessment is needed before development takes place.
She says proposed construction would include things like a water-intake tunnel, a powerhouse, switching station, access roads and transmission line.
Legault adds notices will soon go out on the radio giving local residents various options for getting in contact with the agency should they have any comments or concerns.
