The Correctional Service of Canada has identified the inmate who died at Saskatoon’s Regional Psychiatric Centre over the weekend.

Thirty-six-year-old Kinew James was found unresponsive in her cell Saturday.

The CSC says life-saving measures were attempted and an ambulance was called.

James was later pronounced dead in hospital.

She was serving a sentence of 15 years, four months and 29 days for manslaughter, assault, uttering threats, arson, mischief and obstruction of justice.

James began her sentence on March 24, 1998.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified.

The CSC says it will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
