The political situation on the Standing Buffalo First Nation is in chaos.
A group has been occupying the band’s office, northeast of Regina, since Friday and refuses to leave until it gets a meeting to discuss concerns about how the First Nation spends its money.
Stella Isnana is the band councillor leading the revolt and she says the senate on the reserve has voted to impeach the chief and council.
However, Chief Roger Redman says the senate is not recognized and does not have the authority to do this.
Redman also says Isnana has been suspended as a councillor but she disputes this.
Isnana says the senate is trying to get a court injunction to allow them to run the band’s affairs.
At issue is the chief and council’s spending priorities with the group saying not enough is being spent on job training and too much on travel and meetings.
Both sides have been talking to lawyers and Indian affairs.
