An official with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says he is hopeful his organization can work with the provincial government to improve education and employment for First Nations people.

FSIN Vice-Chief Simon Bird was responding to a new report released yesterday that says Saskatchewan is falling behind both Alberta and Manitoba in First Nations education and employment and the Saskatchewan Party government is partially to blame.

However, Bird says he is going to wait for upcoming initiatives to improve education and employment for First Nations people promised by the province as well as the results of a Joint Task Force on education before laying all blame at the government’s feet.

The report called Employment of First Nations People: Saskatchewan Lags Behind was written by University of Saskatchewan professor Eric Howe and released yesterday in Saskatoon.
