The temporary homeless shelter in North Battleford will close by the end of the week if funding fails to come through.
This is the warning from Battlefords Indian and Métis Friendship Centre Executive Director Janice Kennedy.
Kennedy says the organization has run out of funding necessary to keep the shelter open.
North Battleford Mayor Ian Hamilton says he is surprised to hear this and will look into it.
“I will follow up on that right away and ensure we get funding until the end of March,” he says.
The Friendship Centre has operated a temporary homeless shelter for three years but has no plans to continue doing this.
Kennedy says there’s not enough money to ensure the safety of their staff.
Hamilton says he’ll look into this issue too.
