The Indspire Aboriginal achievement awards were held in Saskatoon Friday night and four Saskatchewan people were amongst this year’s recipients.
Winston Wuttunee, Theoren Fleury, Gabrielle Scrimshaw and Graham Kotowich all received awards on Friday.
A renowned Cree entertainer, Winston Wuttunee is receiving an award for culture, heritage and spirituality.
He says if young Indigenous people work hard and get a good education, anything is possible.
“If you are really good at something right now, continue with that and by the time you are 50 you will be known nationally for sure,” he says. “During that time, make it your prerogative that as soon as you finish high school, maybe work for a year, but then go straight to university.”
Kotowich won the Métis youth award, Scrimshaw the First Nations youth award and Fleury was given an award for his contribution to sport.
The Indspire awards were held at the Sid Buckwold Theatre.
