A major fur auction is going on in Toronto this week.
Around 700 buyers are expected to attend the weeklong event which began on Sunday with offerings of ranch mink.
Dave Bewick of North American Fur Auctions says they expect to see a lot of interest coming from Russia and China.
“Probably 85 to 90 per cent of the buyers here are Asian,” he says. “We certainly got good support from Russia, Turkey, Western Europe, Korea and North America but Asia’s definitely the big player here.”
He says the furs looks quite good this year and a cold winter may be partially responsible.
Bewick adds there are 200 more buyers for this week’s sale than last year.
Wild fur offerings begin tomorrow with fisher and sable.
