The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says it’s surprised by John Duncan’s decision to resign as the country’s Aboriginal Affairs minister.
In a release, the federation says it didn’t always agree with the minister’s decisions but wishes him well in the future.
Chief Perry Bellegarde says he hopes the change in ministers brings a change of tone in dialogue with the federal government.
Meanwhile, the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples says it’s saddened to hear of his departure.
Chief Betty Ann Lavallee says Duncan is an honourable man who did his best to improve the lives of Aboriginal people throughout the country.
For its part, the Opposition NDP gives Duncan credit for stepping down amidst a conflict of interest.
James Moore has been named the interim Aboriginal Affairs minister.
