A new book chronicling elder accounts of the history of the Kawacatoose First Nation was launched Thursday in Saskatoon.

Meskanawiyiniwak Volume One and Two is a group of about 25 interviews with elders in the community on their recollections of family, education, work and places traveled.

Ted Whitecalf of Sweetgrass Records, who helped conduct the interviews and publish the book, says since much of Aboriginal storytelling is orally based, Kawacatoose feels it is important to put these elder stories into written form so that they can be preserved forever.

The book launch took place at McNally Robinson.
