Opposition continues to pour in over Conservative MP Rob Clarke’s suggested changes to the northern Saskatchewan riding.

In a letter to a parliamentary committee, the Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River MP says proposed boundary changes would result in too many First Nations people in the constituency and suggests moving the Aboriginal communities of Cumberland House, Red Earth and Shoal Lake to the southern riding of Yorkton-Melville.

Red Earth First Nation Chief Ian McKay says his band is drafting a joint press release with Shoal Lake opposing Clarke’s changes which he says are certainly not the result of consultation with the affected First Nations.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Village of Cumberland House and Cumberland House Cree Nation have already voiced their opposition to Clarke’s suggested boundary changes.
