Friday was International Women’s Day.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations used the occasion to renew its call for a national public commission of inquiry on ending violence against Indigenous women and girls.
Vice-Chief Kimberley Jonathan notes a special parliamentary committee on missing and murdered Aboriginal women was established last month.
Jonathan says that while that’s a positive first step, this issue warrants deeper investigation and the voices of Indigenous peoples need to be a part of the committee.
