A group of Stanley Mission residents plan to begin a walk to Ottawa tomorrow.
It’s called “A Sacred Journey For Future Generations” and the walk is in support of the Idle No More movement’s opposition to the Conservative government’s Bill C-45.
Organizer Bruce McKenzie says the Tories have already shown a willingness to rescind certain legislation and the walkers are hoping to convince the government to do the same will Bill C-45.
McKenzie will lead a group of seven to eight people on a walk to Saskatoon before they set out for Yorkton, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and finally Ottawa.
He says the plan is to arrive in the nation’s capital on National Aboriginal Day, June 21st.
He’s asking First Nations along the way to welcome the walkers as they pass through their territories.
