The City of Prince Albert expects a report soon on the structural integrity of the Gateway Mall – specifically it’s rooftop parking.

City manager Robert Cotterill says the request was made of the mall shortly after the Elliot Lake mall collapse last year.

Testimony at the inquiry into that disaster has heard that an engineer had serious misgivings about putting parking on the roof of any mall.

But Cotterill says there’s no comparison between the malls in Prince Albert and Elliot Lake.

He says there were problems with the way the Elliot Lake mall was constructed but this isn’t an issue with the Gateway Mall.
