The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says Indigenous people must be more involved if the province is serious about improving the child welfare system.
In a report released on Thursday, Saskatchewan’s Children’s Advocate Bob Pringle says children who are in foster care in the province, many of whom are Aboriginal, are not being well served by the system.
FSIN Vice-Chief Dutch Lerat says in a release First Nations involvement in the child welfare system has been significantly reduced in recent years.
Lerat adds the time to act is now in order improve the lives of all children in the province.
The FSIN says it encourages all people to become active in improving the child welfare system.
